Specialty work platform maker Easy Access Industrial Design launched its alternative to engineered overhead harness systems. The company’s Powered Rooftop Worker Containment Systems are available to the RV maintenance market.
“[Personal Protective Equipment], like a fall arrest harness system, is protecting you only once the fall has occurred,” Canadreams Health and Safety Coordinator Christian Levielle told the company. “And when fall arrest harness systems are used, in addition of potential body injuries (head, arms, legs), the possibility of suspension trauma is a serious concern.”
Suspension trauma, also known as “harness-induced pathology,” is the development of symptoms related to potential consciousness loss.
“This condition, which is potentially fatal, occurs when a person is suspended motionless in a vertical position in the harness while awaiting rescue,” Levielle said.
Easy Access stated its alternative harness system is cost-effective and time-efficient compared with engineered overhead harness systems.
“A single worker can adjust platform height by a worm gear winch powered by a drill driver, and set up the perimeter railing in under 60 seconds, creating safe rooftop access,” the company stated.
