Electric RV Manufacturer Set for Production Run

Just shy of one year since revealing plans to begin manufacturing an electric RV in 2025, Colorado-based Lightship said its first production model is available for purchase.

The Lightship AE.1 Cosmos Edition will be made in the Denver suburb of Broomfield and available to consumers in the summer of 2025.

Once production has begun, Lightship will be among the few manufacturers building all-electric RVs. Bowlus RV was the first manufacturer to build production models a decade ago. Grounded RV in Detroit builds electric Type B motorhomes on Ford’s E-Transit chassis. California-based Pebble will detail its production Flow model in January but has not revealed when manufacturing would begin.

Thor Industries displayed a hybrid motorhome at Elkhart Extravaganza that the company said would be commercially available sometime in 2025.

Winnebago planned to begin manufacturing an e-RV Type B motorhome on the E-Transit chassis in 2024 for the 2025 model year but has not yet begun.

Lightship executives said the first model will be limited to 50 units and sold directly to consumers. The first RVs will be sold to consumers who placed early reservation deposits since the first prototype was unveiled in 2023.

Co-founder and Chief Product Officer Ben Parker said, “With the limited-edition Lightship AE.1 Cosmos, we are delivering a dream travel experience for sustainable travelers, tech lovers and EV enthusiasts. Our mission is to bring RVs into the electric age with the AE.1.”

The AE.1 Cosmos Edition will retail for $250,000. The RV’s battery and integrated, full-solar roof design delivers an all-electric experience. The AE.1 sleeps four and includes an automotive-grade HVAC system. The AE.1 Cosmos Edition includes a fully outfitted bathroom and a galley kitchen with a dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, convection oven and induction cooktop.

The RV is available in two colors, Timberline and DuskHorizon. Three more AE.1 trim levels—Atmos, Panos and Terros—are planned, with each trim level having distinct feature sets and price points.
