The sun shone on Genesis Products as the company celebrated the opening of its 75,000-square-foot Plant 10 in Goshen, Indiana, at 4 p.m. May 16.
About 75 people gathered for the ribbon-cutting, enjoyed appetizers and toured the plant. The plant contains about 8,000 square feet of office space, with the balance of the building devoted to manufacturing.
The new plant will focus the company’s solid surface production operations, eliminating offsite warehouses use and expanding Genesis Products’ capacity to make solid surface countertops.
“We have enhanced our capabilities with this plant move,” Genesis Products CEO Jon Wenger said. “We have additional CNC machinery, additional capabilities for edging and creating different sorts of looks and we have expanded the footprint for sanding and finishing operations.”
In addition to Plant 10, Genesis operates 13 other plants. Plant 10 sits next to a sister plant the company uses to manufacture thermofoil pressed countertops.
“For our countertop offering, we really have two products that we offer… the thermofoil vinyl tops and solid surface tops,” Wenger said, “So those plants are… essentially connected and that really allows us to offer the two products together to create a complete package for the RV market.”
The company started manufacturing solid surface components about two years ago. The solid surface operations were in a secondary space in two other company plants. Moving the solid surface manufacturing to Plant 10 created space and helped the company to “right-size” other plants, Wenger said.
According to Kamden Betzer, Genesis Solid Surface product manager, the new plant will enable Genesis to carry a broader color and design range. Genesis can color-match vinyl and solid surface for custom looks, including white marble and stone.
The new facility will help Genesis to gain immediate market share, Betzer said.
“We are starting to see good momentum,” Wenger said. “We are really happy… with that and with what we have been able to offer our customers.”
Genesis employs more than 1,200. According to Wenger, the company does not immediately plan to add more jobs.
“We have an extremely talented team that is eager to ramp things up,” Betzer said, “and more than double our output by the end of 2023.”
