A plan more than a decade in the making came to fruition this week. Jayco RV officials and representatives from Goshen Health and DJ Construction held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open Jayco’s Family Care Clinic.
The clinic is a 10,000-square-foot facility including an occupational health clinic and a fitness center.
“About two or three years ago, we got serious about this clinic,” Jayco Vice President of Marketing Trey Miller said. “(Jayco President and CEO) Ken Walters and others said, ‘Let’s make this happen.’”
The health-care facility will serve the more than 3,000 Jayco employees and their families in the Northern Indiana region. Entegra Coach, Jayco, Starcraft RV and Highland Ridge RV employees are eligible to access care and facilities.
The clinics have 11 staffers, including two physicians, four nurse practitioners, four clinical support staff and a practice manager. Together they provide occupational, primary care and preventative health services, prescription drugs and wellness coaching. The fitness center has 24-hour access to weight machines, free weights and cardiovascular equipment. Locker and changing rooms with private showers are included along with instructional exercise aids, electronic scales and body composition machines.
Miller said he was told the new clinic was even larger than the Notre Dame employee health clinic.
“It is legit,” he said. “It is bigger than a lot of doctors’ offices.”
The clinic’s opening is among Walters’ primary focuses for Jayco, which he reinforced at the manufacturer’s Dealer Homecoming event in August. Walters said employee relations, dealer relations and quality are the prime areas in which Jayco will focus resources.
“When you look at all the things Jayco has invested time, money and energy in under his watch, that is what it has been,” Miller said, citing the recent opening of Jayco’s pre-delivery inspection facility.
The clinic will serve as a differentiator from other RV manufacturers, Miller said, but also other local businesses. No other Northern Indiana-based RV manufacturer has a similar employee clinic and Miller said the Goshen City School district is the only other Elkhart County business with one.
“It is definitely different,” Miller said. “It is unique and it is an added benefit nobody else in the area in this industry can hang their hat on.”
Goshen Health President and CEO Randy Christophel was present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Goshen Health will provide the physicians staffing the clinic.
“We are honored to support Jayco’s commitment to the health and well-being of its workforce,” Christophel said. “It is a privilege for us to provide Jayco employees and their families with convenient access to high-quality primary and preventive health care.”
