EXCLUSIVE: Nexus RV to Double Production Capabilities

Motorhome manufacturer Nexus RV is doubling its production capabilities with the purchase of a new 75,000-square-foot facility.

The Elkhart, Indiana-based company manufactures Type C, Super C and Type B units. It was established as a factory direct business, co-founder Dave Middleton said, but the company started selling through a dealer network three years ago. Nexus RV has dealers in 32 states and five Canadian provinces.

“The products are doing very well,” Middleton said. “We are signing key dealers, and their increase in business and success is giving us more orders. A hot segment right now is the Super C category. That is the wheelhouse.”

Heightened industry demand sparked expansion plans last October, Middleton said.

The expansion will happen in stages, he added. Nexus RV plans to move its chassis belt, weld shop and lamination shop to the new facility. By mid-summer, the company said the facility will be ready to double capacity. It also will become the main plant for the company’s Super C units, which are built on Ford chassis.

“We are laser focused,” Middleton said. “With this year, it has been a good year and we are ready for a challenge. We are focused on Super C and Class C units and should be able make headway in the marketplace and gain market share.”

The company plans to have units coming off the new production line around March. Nexus RV will add 50 people to its labor force to accommodate growth.

“Although the labor market is tight, making any expansion a challenge, we look forward (to) growing our footprint in Elkhart, as we are surrounded by all the great vendors and have access to the best talent possible,” co-founder Claude Donati said.

“We have been very fortunate to sign the best dealers in the industry during the pandemic and our backlog is over 10 months out,” Donati said. “Buying a new plant will allow us to more quickly provide our dealers the highest quality products in a timely matter.”
