The Pennsylvania Recreation Vehicle and Camping Association (PRVCA) hired James Lubomski on April 4, to serve as Education Director.
In his new role, Lubomski will oversee the association’s education efforts. He will work with the education committee to develop education and training programs to benefit PRVCA members, including nationally standardized instructional training for RV technicians at all levels, leadership development and consumer education.
The former education director, Greg DeWalt, held the position for 12 months.
“When the previous education director left, we wanted to re-examine our goals for the position,” said Heather Leach, PRVCA executive director. “We decided to look for someone with education training who could get a solid program set up for our members.”
Lubomski said he decided to apply for the role because Indeed, the job board website, indicated he was a 100% match for the position.
“I was familiar with the RV industry from the consumer end of things. I did not know about the association,” he said. “It is proving to be a position where I can use my skills and expertise for the pure enjoyment and fun of everybody. There is not the pressure of higher education or law enforcement.”
Lubomski has been on the road this week visiting local dealerships to discover what they need from the PRVCA. He is discovering dealers need help with new employee recruitment and accessible technician training, he said.
“Many techs need relevant, updated training for new systems and components.” he said, “They do not have time to set an entire day aside to get training from a manufacturer, or Google how something works.”
In his new role, Lubomski plans to develop two- to four-hour training sessions for members that will be on-demand from the PRVCA online library. He proposes to update the PRVCA online library, improve member communication about available training and offer completion certificates, he said.
“We are thrilled to welcome James to the PRVCA team,” Leach said. “His vast knowledge of education, curriculum development, compliance and instruction will bring new ideas and value to our members so they can enhance their business operations, develop skilled staff members and better serve their customers.”
Lubomski previously served as director of training and staff development for the Dauphin County Prison. He also served as the career and technical education advisor for the Pennsylvania Department of Education, leading statewide career and technical education standards for nurse aide training.
He provided compliance review and approval for career and technical education programs; managed accreditation for adult education programs; served as an educator and instructor coach and developed career/technical education curriculums.
He served as a program director and professor for the McCann School of Business and Technology and the Kaplan Center Institute.
Lubomski earned a master’s degree from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
According to Leach, the PRVCA training season runs from November to March and Lubombski is planning the new season’s training agenda now.
“As one of his first initiatives, he will hold career days and get the word out that being an RV tech is an exciting and viable career path,” she said.
