Rossmonster, a custom overlanding motorhome manufacturer, is dramatically changing its entire business model.
The Longmont, Colorado-based company is transitioning from making custom RVs to mass producing them. The company relocated into a new facility that will triple the number of vehicles built to 150 annually. The increased production is enabling the company to switch from a direct-to-consumer business model to selling through RV dealerships.
Rossmonster selected a multi-state, four-location dealership as its first dealer partner. Van City RV committed to carrying all three of the company’s Baja vehicle floorplans.
The Baja is a motorhome built upon a Ford or Ram truck chassis. The manufacturer has made the Baja for five years.
Rossmonster CEO Luke Farny said he chose Van City due to its experience selling overlanding vehicles.
Farny said, “It was important for us to find a partner who understands that space like Van City and understands the clientele that is after an adventure vehicle.”
Among the adventure vehicles Van City sells are Storyteller Overland’s Type B adventure vans and Type C Hilt motorhomes.
Rossmonster currently repairs RVs at its Longmont location. Van City will service the growing Rossmonster consumer base.
The manufacturer will provide training to Van City RV technicians.
Van City committed to carry 16 Bajas spread across its locations in Las Vegas; St. Louis; Kalispell, Montana; and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Van City will receive its first shipments in the coming weeks.
Floorplan Details
Twenty-eight people work at Rossmonster’s 30,000-square-foot building in Longmont. Rossmonster moved to the building 18 months ago.
The Baja comes in three floorplans: The LX, the EX and the Plus.
Farny said the floorplans are built upon the best custom layouts the company made.
The Baja LX and EX are each built on a Ford F350 chassis with a 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine. The Baja Plus will be built on a Ram 5500 chassis.
The Baja LX has a rear dinette that converts into a sleeping area and a queen-sized bed. The kitchen has an induction cooktop and an Isotherm Cruise fridge/freezer. The LX includes a full-size wet bath with a composite shower stall and a Thetford cassette toilette. The motorhome features a Nomadic Cooling 12-volt air conditioner, and an AquaHot hydronic heat and hot water system. A 40-gallon freshwater tank is on board. A battery bank has storage for 800-amp-hour lithium iron phosphate batteries.
The Baja EX has similar features to the LX. The main difference is a folding hot-water shower stall. The shower is stored in a cabinet. It can be unfolded and used in the kitchen area. A composting toilet sits on a sliding platform that fits underneath the countertop. The layout provides more countertop surface and a larger fridge space. Another differentiator is the EX’s 30-gallon freshwater tank.
The Baja Plus floorplan will be released later this month. The Baja Plus’ exterior shell, excluding the truck cab, will be 12 inches longer and 9 inches wider compared with the Baja LX and the EX.
Rossmonster will expand its dealer network in January to add five dealers.
