Earlier this month, teams from Patrick Industries, Lippert Components, Genesis Products and Forest River wielded hammers in a “Raise the Roof” event to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity in Elkhart, Ind. at the Northern Indiana Event Center.
This was Genesis Products’ first time participating in the event.
According to Kristin Hall, Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County development director, the annual event is an opportunity for the organization to talk about and advocate for area workers’ affordable housing needs.
“We have been fortunate in Elkhart County,” she said. “to have a lot of support from the RV industry.”
On the morning of May 4, the teams built exterior and interior walls for homes for two families in the parking lot of the event center for three hours. Later that evening, the teams participated in a friendly competition to raise the walls inside the event center. Three hundred guests voted for their favorite teams. Forest River won the competition for the second year in a row.
Guests contributed to sponsoring Habitat in various ways during the event, donating items such as dish washers or doors. Dometic sponsored a kitchen at the event.
The event raised about $225,000, enough to build two complete homes for local families, Hall said.
