Today is the beginning of RV Fixed Operations Certification Week. The week, designated by the Society of Certified RV Professionals, the RV Technical Institute (RVTI) and the Mike Molino RV Learning Center, provides opportunities for fixed-operations professionals to become certified in their specialty.
D&N RV Service Operations Manager Brandon Galbreath, who was twice named the top service technician in the country, said RV technicians are to certification as doctors are to medical degrees. If a doctor does not have one, patients likely avoid their advice or service.
“Let your customers know that they can rest assured,” Galbreath said, “that you know at least the basics of what you are doing.”
RV service work is complex, he said, and without training, damage could ensue.
All technicians at D&N RV, a service shop in Guntersville, Alabama, are certified to ensure safety.
Galbreath understands the value of technician training and certification. In 2019, he was crowned champion at the RVX: RV Experience Top Tech Challenge in Salt Lake City. The competition gathered RV technicians across the country to compete in technician challenges at timed intervals. The win followed a 2018 triumph in a service competition conducted by RVIA at the annual Louisville show.
After collecting his glistening trophy in 2019, Galbreath collaborated with RVTI to develop technician training programs. He is now chairman of RVTI’s curriculum commission.
“We are not just in this for their money,” Galbreath said, “we are in this for the professional aspect of trying to add value to the RV lifestyle.”
