United States Warranty Corporation (USWC) is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year as a provider of extended service contracts for RVs. As the Cleveland-based company prepares to mark this milestone, it is also preparing to launch a revamped and expanded RV program this spring.
USWC is finalizing changes and updates to its extended service plans and benefits for RV owners, V.P. of Marketing and Communications Patty Emser said.
“We will have some robust and competitive offerings,” Emser said. “A lot of pieces are things that have not been done before that the market is wanting. Because of our nimbleness as a family-owned business, we have the opportunity to create some programs that large corporations cannot.”
The company will announce full details of the new RV program in the second quarter of 2020, she said.
USWC, founded in 1975, offers consumers protection for repair costs not covered by manufacturers’ warranties. Terry Landis purchased the company in the early 1990s. His daughter, Jodi Latshaw, grew up working in the company, performing every job role except claims adjuster. Latshaw became president and CEO in 2015.
Consumer education has been a central focus of the company since its founding, Latshaw said.
“We’re here to make sure the customer understands what they purchased,” she said. “We want to be completely transparent in terms of what’s covered and how it’s handled.”
USWC has tripled in size over the past five years, adding staff to ensure it is proactive, as opposed to reactive, when it comes to customer service. The company has 24/7 claims administration handled in-house by employees in Ohio. All claims can be filed online, and USWC is currently developing a mobile app to further streamline the process.
Part of the growth in size is due to USWC’s growing lineup of programs, which now includes marine and powersports divisions.
“Over the years, as the market has ebbed and flowed, we have responded to those changes,” Latshaw said, “but something I’m pretty proud of is that despite the fact we’ve grown, our staff is still like family—and we still do handshake business like my dad did.”
