EXCLUSIVE: Valterra Solution Disposes of Common Sewer Struggles

A picture of the components of Valterra Products' E-Valve system.

Many consumers enjoy RVs because they enable outdoor experiences that create family memories. Many consumers often dread one RVing aspect: emptying waste tanks.

Valterra launched a new solution to prevent consumers from having difficulties emptying their tanks on site or at the dump station. The product also assists consumers with mobility challenges or difficult to reach valve handles.

The supplier’s new E-Valve simplifies these issues with upgraded technology. Valterra attached an electric motor to an existing waste valve body. The device connects to a switch which can be mounted anywhere on the vehicle. The design enables RVers to open the valve with ease.

RVers typically open the dump valve with handles, which can lead to messy endeavors. The E-Valve opens the valve to release the waste by flipping a switch.

Valterra Product Manager Andy Mikesell said, “When you are dealing with human waste and dirty shower water and sink water, it is not fun. The easier we can make it, the more pleasant we can make it, the better off it is for the consumer, and dealers can take advantage of that.”

The valve is available in three kits: a 1.5-inch, a 3-inch and a combo kit with 1.5-inch and 3-inch sizes. All kits include a mountable switch and seals.

The 12-volt valves have a 1.7-amp draw. The feature works with black water, grey water and galley tanks.

Mikesell said, “It is just simply a better way of waste management.”

The E-Valve serves as an aftermarket upgrade. Mikesell said the product can also drive service shop revenue. Installation includes replacing the valve with four bolts and mounting the switch. The wiring is plug-and-play.

According to Mikesell, Valterra noticed many installed valves were in tight spaces, so the supplier made the E-Valve small to fit many spaces. Technicians do not need to adjust the RV’s plumbing upon installation.

Response

Valterra revealed the product at the NTP-Stag 2025 Expo Jan. 19-21.

Mikesell said, “We were actually shocked by the response from the dealer base.”

He anticipated 30-40 orders. By the show’s end, 160 retailers had ordered E-Valves.

The company promoted the product alongside a working display, where audience members could flip a switch and see the valve function. Dealers who placed NTP-Stag orders will receive a similar display.

Mikesell said, “It has exceeded our expectations on the dealer and consumer traffic, as far as them using the display.”

Dealers interested in stocking the part can contact Valterra by calling 818-898-1671 or by emailing valterra@valterra.com. To learn more about the valve, click here.
