Garmin International, a unit of Garmin Ltd., announced Jan. 5 the latest and largest addition to its RV-specific GPS navigator series.
The RV 1090 has a 10-inch high-resolution touchscreen display, which provides travelers the ability to see along their route more clearly than before, the company stated. The RV 1090 screen includes portrait and landscape view options and can accommodate an RV or towable trailer.
“The extra-large display of the RV 1090 makes it easy for travelers to see the navigation details that matter most on their journey,” VP of Global Consumer Sales Dan Bartel stated. “Whether you are headed through your favorite national park with family, or embarking on a cross-country adventure, drivers will now have a sharp, responsive display tailored for RV vacations.”
The RV 1090 provides RV-related navigation features, including custom RV routing that takes into account the camper or trailer’s size and weight to find an appropriate route option. The RV 1090 includes road warnings before upcoming hazards such as sharp curves and steep grades.
The product comes with a preloaded RV parks and services directory and Tripadvisor traveler ratings. Preloaded travel content includes Ultimate Public Campgrounds, KOA, iOverlander, a directory of U.S. national parks, Foursquare points of interest and North American street maps.
“Additionally, travelers can benefit from other RV 1090 features that add convenience and encourage safer driving,” Garmin stated.
Bluetooth calling and a revamped Garmin voice assistant option simplify startup commands to “OK Garmin,” so drivers can speak to the RV 1090 while keeping their hands on the steering wheel, the company stated. Built-in Wi-Fi allows the navigator to perform map and software updates without connecting to a computer.
With the company’s new trip planning feature, owners can pair the RV 1090 with the Garmin Drive app to import and share GPX files before or during a trip. Additionally, the Garmin Drive app lists live fuel prices, traffic and weather, and an option to view smartphone notifications and traffic cameras.
“The RV 1090 can also be easily paired with Garmin’s BC35 wireless backup camera or third-party compatible backup cameras to see behind the RV when moving in reverse,” Garmin stated.
The RV navigator includes a powered magnetic mount with suction cup, screw-down mount and a ball adapter with an AMPS plate that is compatible with hardware such as a RAM mounting system.
