Gas Prices See First Dip Since September

For the first time since the week of Sept. 27, the Energy Information Administration reported average national gas prices fell from the previous week.

EIA reported average regular gas prices nationally totaled $3.40 a gallon, down 1.1 cents from the previous week. The average regular price rose seven consecutive weeks and is $1.29 a gallon higher than the same week in 2020.

Diesel average gas prices nationally were flat from the prior week at $3.73 a gallon. Average diesel prices are $1.29 a gallon higher than the same week a year ago.

“A slight dip in gas demand, possibly due to seasonal driving habit changes, is contributing to some price relief at the pump,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “Unfortunately, the ongoing tight supply of crude oil will likely keep gas prices fluctuating, instead of dropping, for some time.”

EIA also reported gasoline demand fell from the previous week. Coupled with increased supply, AAA stated the effect forced prices down.

“However, pump prices will likely remain elevated for consumers,” AAA stated, “as long as oil prices are above $80 per barrel.”
