The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported national regular gasoline prices rose an average of 2 cents a gallon last week to $3.15.
The pace of increasing prices has slowed since the Independence Day weekend but average prices remain nearly 97 cents a gallon higher than the same week a year ago.
Diesel prices were flat from the previous week at $3.34 a gallon.
“It’s a cruel summer at the gas pump with prices showing little signs of relief,” AAA spokesperson Jeanette McGee said. “However, the more expensive prices are not stopping motorists from filling up based on strong gasoline demand numbers.”
During the past week, AAA reported 25 state gasoline averages increased by at least 2 cents, with 11 of those seeing jumps of a nickel or more.
