GE Appliances is investing $450 million into its Appliance Park headquarters and manufacturing operation in Louisville, Kentucky. The initiative will add more than 1,000 new jobs by the end of 2023.

Overall plans include continuing to upgrade facilities, increase capacity and launch new products. Over the past five years, GE Appliances invested more than $1.3 billion in its U.S. manufacturing and distribution operations and created more than 3,000 new jobs, mostly in Kentucky.

Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances, said the company has strived to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.

“We want zero distance between us and the millions of families across America we serve with our products,” Nolan said.

The company’s plan has preliminary approval. Preliminary economic development incentives by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority have also been approved.

“I want to thank Gov. (Andy) Beshear and the entire economic development team for their understanding of the importance of growing and sustaining existing businesses in the Commonwealth,” Nolan said.

GE Appliances first received incentives from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority in 2014. That agreement included the company’s commitment to maintain a workforce of not less than 5,263 employees at Appliance Park. The original job commitment has been met, and GE Appliances additionally increased employment by about 2,000.

This year’s decision would increase the incentive amount to $80 million for the new investment and require maintaining a minimum of 7,100 employees for the next 10 years.
