General RV Touts PDI Facility

An industry-first facility dedicated to General RV Center’s pre-delivery inspections (PDI) and testing is preparing to open in Bristol, Indiana.

The new facility is minutes from the RV/MH Hall of Fame and will serve as a check point for units to undergo testing and quality checks before they continue to General RV dealers. The Michigan-based dealership stated the move will push General RV forward in a “highly competitive market.”

“General RV is committed to providing customers with a premier experience, and that experience begins with a great product,” General RV President Loren Baidas said.

The company’s general manager, Troy Becktel, will lead the inspection facility’s team and operations, bringing more than 30 years of industry experience from his previous roles at Spartan Motors, Tiffin Motorhomes and Erwin Hymer Group North America.

“The team members at our inspection facility play a crucial role in our operations and help us exceed our customers’ expectations,” company VP of Operations Kerry Porter said.

The facility’s complex spans 77 acres, including two buildings that total more than 150,000 square feet. Inspections will be conducted in a production line environment with six stages covering “every major system of the RV.”

The facility has 20 service bays where warranty work can be completed, General RV stated.

“Because our inspection facility is located very close to manufacturers, we can partner with them to resolve major issues before RVs continue on to our dealerships,” Porter said. “This will enable us to provide a better day of delivery experience for our guests.”

Becktel said the company is aiming to “cement” partnerships with manufacturers by involving them in the process and providing analytical information to help improve unit quality.

By moving its PDI operations to the inspection facility, General RV stated it will significantly increase service capacity at its dealerships.

“This is an underserved segment of the RV industry, and we will be better equipped to provide a premier experience with shorter wait times and quicker turnarounds,” Porter said.

The company has immediate, full-time job openings in Bristol including warranty technicians, production associates, facility cleaners, shipping/receiving specialists, check-in attendants and more.
