The recently released 2021 Go RVing RV Owner Demographic Profile, a comprehensive study of RV ownership, provides a variety of insights and perspectives on the demographics and ownership habits of RV owners, former RV owners and RV intenders.
Type C motorhomes are owned by 7% of RVers. The vehicles are mainly bought by young families, millennials and Gen-Zers, accounting for 22% and 30% of total purchases, respectively. Additionally, 39% of first-time owners chose a Type C vehicle.
However, 64% of Type C owners are older than 55, with only 36% between 18-54. The study found 42% of Type C owners are retired and 75% do not have children living with them. Additionally, 22% travel with their pets.
Males own the most Type C vehicles, at a reported 57%. Another 57% of Type C owners earn a household income of more than $65,000. The study found nearly half, 44% such buyers, pay cash up front when purchasing.
Type Cs are used an average of 21 days per year, most often during the summer (79%) and fall (61%). On average, the vehicles operate during 59% of owners’ vacation time. While on the road, Type C RVers like to participate in hobbies such as outdoor sports (44%), fishing (40%), and water recreation (27%). During their travels, Type C owners prefer to stay at state parks (59%), private campgrounds (51%) and national parks (50%). Along with their RV, 32% bring bicycles along for the ride and 23% bring a secondary vehicle.
