The RV industry is ramping up for a record-breaking summer season as companies continue to support families’ remote work and vacation plans.
RVIA’s Go RVing reported in a recent survey 31% of leisure travelers – 56 million people – are planning to RV this summer, with 65 million planning a trip within one year.
Unlike 2020’s summer season, the pandemic is “not the primary reason” for a spike in RV camping. Go RVing stated its survey shows remote work, family travel and exploration are top reasons for a continuing popularity.
The platform launched a “First-Timers Toolkit” on the Go RVing website, including videos and step-by-step instructions from RVers to fulfill a surge in trip planning requests. The company provided top searched subjects on RV camping for first-timers:
- Finding an RV:Go RVing stated consumers can rent an RV from a local dealership, an RV rental agency or peer-to-peer option such as Outdoorsy and RVshare. Many campgrounds have cabins available with a bathroom, kitchen, temperature control and more, the company stated, which is a great way to try the camping lifestyle. Peer-to-peer owners often will deliver an RV to a campground nearby and set it up.
- Finding a Campsite:Many of the 423 national parks and 6,600 state parks offer camping options, but Go RVing stated the best choice for new campers are private sites. There is a campground search tool on GoRVing.com. Private sites may show a sold-out status online, but campers can call locations directly for last minute cancellations.
- Cannot Find a Campground:If a consumer needs a night without a campground reservation, “boondocking” is an option. The camping style includes no water, electric or sewer hookups. This is a great option for a night or two in between campground stays, Go RVing stated. Harvest Hosts offers more than 2,300 wineries, farms and other locations (including 401 golf courses) nationwide to boondock.
- How to Plan a Trip: RVing allows campers to bring everything from home, including pets, but it takes trip planning. Go RVing noted certain considerations such as the time and fuel it takes to reach a destination, RV road restrictions and stops to take. Go RVing stated the best tools for RV trip planning are apps such as Roadtrippers or RV Life.
