At Dragonfly Energy Holdings Corp.’s headquarters in Reno, Nevada, national and state leaders revealed a $21 million investment in lithium batteries.

Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Nevada Sen. Jacky Rosen said the funding would go toward the Nevada Tech Hub. The collective is led by the University of Nevada, Reno.

Dragonfly Energy CEO Denis Phares gave Raimondo and Rosen a tour of the supplier’s facility after the funding announcement. Phares displayed the company’s manufacturing process to the federal representatives. Federal, state and local economic development leaders attended the event.

Phares said, “Dragonfly Energy continues to be devoted to innovation and development of technology that will enable us to compete on the world stage, not just domestically.”

The Nevada Tech Hub is one of many across the U.S. developed to enhance technology production, create jobs and strengthen the nation’s competitiveness and national security.

Rosen said, “This funding is going to invest in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) education, it is going to invest in workforce training and it is going to help us grow our leading role in the lithium supply chain.”

The Nevada Tech Hub’s mission is to build a self-sustaining and globally competitive, complete lithium economy within Nevada. The organization addresses extraction, processing, manufacturing and recycling methods.

Raimondo emphasized the importance of American manufacturing and innovation.

“That is what this is all about,” Raimondo said, “investing in America, one community at a time, to create industries of the future.”
