The Great American Outdoors Act is being put to use within Minnesota’s Kawishiwi Ranger District, where four local projects have been selected for fiscal year 2021, reported The Ely Echo.
The selected project will be the first round of improvements to address deferred maintenance on the Superior National Forest, a sector of the U.S. National Forest system located in Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region, in addition to improving visitors’ experiences.
The Ely Echo reported the Great American Outdoors Act is responding to the growing $5.9 billion deferred maintenance backlog on national forest and grasslands. This includes $3.7 billion for roads and bridges and $1.5 billion for visitor centers, campgrounds and other facilities.
