Harbinger’s Electric Chassis Orders Increase

Harbinger’s electric chassis has 4,000 vehicle pre-orders. Harbinger will begin delivering production vehicles at the end of 2024.

The electric truck manufacturer shipped its first pre-production medium-duty electric chassis to Thor Industries in March. Thor Industries has been a major investor in Harbinger.

Thor Industries Director of eMobility Jim Kane said, “The Thor executives were amazed by the clean design of Harbinger’s electric chassis, and most had a hard time believing this was a pre-production vehicle. Harbinger’s product is so much better than anything else we have seen from the industry.”

Once Harbinger begins delivering production vehicles, the company said its chassis will be integrated into vehicles such as Type A motorhomes.

Harbinger CEO John Harris said, “Today, most manufacturers are adapting gasoline or diesel vehicles to electrification, rather than building a ground-up electric platform. This compromised approach leads to concerns with vehicle safety and durability as well as higher production costs, which is why we chose to start fresh with a clean sheet design.”

The electric chassis will be offered in four GVWRs and three wheelbases. The wheelbase options include 158 inches, 178 inches and 208 inches. Harbinger designs and assembles the chassis’ powertrain, battery system, steering and brakes.

The electric chassis will have an 800-volt liquid-cooled battery system with a 35-kilowatt-hour capacity for more than 200 miles. The chassis will have a one-hour, direct current fast-charging capability. Harbinger said the chassis should have a 20-year, 450,000-mile life.
