RV dealers’ lots swelled with inventory are keeping wholesale auction volumes lower this year.
Black Book’s monthly specialty vehicle report found wholesale auction volume lower for towable and motorized RVs in May. Towable RV volume fell 8.1% from April 2023 levels. Motorized RV volume fell 14.5% from the previous month.
Eric Lawrence, Black Book’s principal analyst – specialty markets, said, “Recent RVIA reports showing that new shipments are down by nearly 40% year-over-year, indicating dealers having fully stocked lots, likely explains the recent drop off in auction volume.”
Towable RV prices in May rose 1.1% from April 2023 levels to average $21,362. The price is up 5.7% from May 2022’s average of $20,198. The average towables age was five years (2017 model year).
Motorized prices rose 12.3% from April 2023 to $73,393. The average price is 6.4% higher than May 2022 levels of $68,498. The average motorized age was 10 years (2013 model year).
“Towable values have been very stable for four months, not really changing by more than 1% or so,” Lawrence said. “Motorhomes have been a bit more unpredictable, bouncing between the mid-$60,000s and the mid-$70,000s.”
