Gov. Eric Holcomb selected Jim Staton to serve as Indiana’s interim secretary of commerce, effective immediately.
Staton is the Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC) senior VP and chief business development officer. He oversees the organization’s domestic and international expansion and attraction efforts, IEDC stated, and has served the state’s business community for more than 30 years.
Prior to being selected to lead global business development in 2018, Staton served in numerous economic development-focused roles since joining IEDC in 2005. He previously was VP of business development and director of business development for central and northwest-Indiana regions, in addition to a role as business recruitment director for North America.
The IEDC is governed by a 15-member board chaired by Holcomb. The organization manages many initiatives including performance-based tax credits, workforce training grants, entrepreneurship resources, public infrastructure assistance and talent retention efforts.
