The Interior Department added two executives to the Fish and Wildlife and Parks Department.
Mike Martinez and Matthew Strickler were appointed as deputy assistant secretaries at the Fish and Wildlife and Parks Department.
“The Interior Department is hard at work turning President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda into reality,” Chief of Staff Lawrence Roberts said. “These new team members will help serve our mission to honor the federal government’s trust responsibilities to Indian Country, strengthen the nation-to-nation relationship, and conserve our public lands and waters for current and future generations.”
Martinez most recently served as a policy analyst for the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission, where he focused on water resources and fisheries in western Washington. He previously served seven years as a natural resources law and policy advisor at the Agriculture Department.
Martinez served more than a decade in various roles at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and as a judicial law clerk at the Washington Supreme Court. He holds a bachelor’s degree in natural resources recreation planning and management, master’s degrees in environmental studies and environmental law, and a Juris Doctor.
Strickler most recently served as Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources and Chief Resilience Officer to Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam. Earlier, Strickler worked nearly six years as a senior policy advisor and professional staff member for the House Committee on Natural Resources and as a legislative aide in the Virginia General Assembly.
He is from Lexington, Virginia, and holds master’s degrees in marine science and public policy from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the College of William and Mary.
