Families and friends often strengthen relationships in several ways. Kampgrounds of America’s (KOA) 2024 Outdoors and Wellness report revealed that many RVers value strengthening relationships and well-being through camping.

KOA President Toby O’Rourke said, “The outdoors allow people to de-stress, feel relaxed, become more grounded and better connect to nature and the people they cherish.”

Nearly two-thirds of RVers reported that emphasizing spending time with loved ones, slowing down to enjoy the moment and focusing on what brings them joy improves interpersonal relationships.

The report concluded that 85% of RVers who said camping helps strengthen their relationships with family also said camping contributes to their emotional well-being.

More than two-thirds (69%) of RVers said camping contributes to emotional well-being. More than three-quarters (76%) of Gen X respondents reported a preference for finding emotional respite outdoors. Two-thirds of Gen Z and millennial respondents reported they preferred to find emotional respite outdoors.

Nearly all RVers (94%) plan to include some wellness activity in their camping trip. One out of six campers considered a wellness experience in 2024 with 70% preferring water-based activities.

Nearly two-thirds (65%) of RVers said a digital detox was appealing.

KOA recorded that RVers desire fewer distractions, less time spent organizing, more spontaneity and simpler experiences. Consumers gravitate toward immersive experiences as opposed to organized retreats or group classes.

“Wellness means more than self-care,” O’Rourke said. “It is being in the moment, seeking out activities that bring joy and simply connecting to nature.”
