The RVDA Convention/Expo will include a “Super Lawyers Session” wherein RV industry legal authorities educate attendees. The exercise, which will focus on avoiding expensive lawsuits, is slated for 2-4 p.m. Nov. 13 during the expo Nov. 11-15 at Paris Las Vegas.
According to RVDA, the mock trial is a way to teach dealers “how to prevent lawsuits against their dealership by partnering with manufacturers.” The sessions will take place in the Champagne 3 and 4 ballrooms.
This year’s mock litigation, for which audience members will serve as jurors, is named “The Dealership Strikes Back” in reference to the “Star Wars” film franchise.
Instructors and speakers include industry trainer Harold Oehler of Oehler Mediation and Training, Keystone RV General Counsel Dave Thomas, Thor Consumer Affairs liaison Tobi Conroy and Jim Ganther of Mosaic Compliance Services.
RVDA President Phil Ingrassia said, “This panel has proven to be popular with our members, and this year’s group promises to feature new strategies that dealers, manufacturers and their management teams can use to avoid expensive and time-consuming litigation. It’s always better to start thinking about topics like this in a seminar session before any of it becomes a reality.”
Objectives for the Super Lawyers program include:
- How to partner with their manufacturers to prevent consumer lawsuits.
- How to resolve consumer complaints.
- How to work with a manufacturer, so the manufacturer is more inclined to pay the dealer’s legal defense and protect the dealer from judgment.
