Lippert Partners with Solar Energy Company on Project

Sunlight peeking through RV windows may soon be transformed into energy to power vehicles through Lippert’s new collaboration. The supplier is partnering with SolarWindow Technologies on a project to try and create electricity-generating glass for Lippert’s RV, marine and specialty building markets.

SolarWindow develops transparent, electricity-generating coatings, methods and technologies. When applied to glass or plastic surfaces, the coatings can generate electricity from artificial, natural, low-shaded or reflected light.

Lippert President and CEO Jason Lippert said, “We believe our collaboration with SolarWindow presents the potential for novel energy solutions to meet our customers’ needs through transparent, lightweight and fully integrated SolarWindow-Lippert Products.”

Lippert manufactures more than 23,000 windows worldwide daily. The company uses more than 330 million square feet of glass annually to create windows, tempered/laminated glass products and other components. The supplier has 140 manufacturing and distribution centers across North America, Africa and Europe.

SolarWindow President and CEO Amit Singh said, “Lippert has nearly 70 years of experience in commercializing innovative products globally and is an ideal product collaboration partner for integrating our transparent, ultra-thin SolarWindow coatings to turn otherwise ordinary glass into electricity-generating windows.”

In announcing their partnership, the companies cautioned against expecting success from their project.

“There is no assurance that any of the mutually defined goals will be attained or that future agreements will be successfully negotiated or consummated,” the companies said, “and no assurance that SolarWindow-Lippert products will be successfully engineered, prototyped, tested, certified, manufactured, produced or sold.”
