Maryland’s RV-Specific Franchise Law Official

A picture of a gavel next to legislation.

Maryland’s RV-specific franchise laws HB 605 and SB 504 will go into effect Oct. 1. The laws govern manufacturer and dealer relationships concerning towable RVs.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore signed the legislation into law May 9.

Similar legislation was passed recently in Wisconsin and Washington to create a system better-reflecting RV manufacturer and dealer relationships. The law will establish automobile franchise law exemptions that do not apply to or differentiate from the RV industry.

RVIA Senior Manager of State Affairs Sophie de la Torre said, “This bill would place the RV industry in a separate chapter from the auto industry, finally allowing these two industries to operate separately under law as they do in reality.”

The law was supported by Maryland District 1 Sen. Michael McKay and Baltimore Delegate Dana Stein.

RVIA advocated for an RV-specific franchise law to place the manufacturer-dealer relationship concerning towable RVs in a separate chapter of the law, creating more clarity for RV businesses and consumers.
