Scholarship applications are being accepted for the nonprofit Tim DeWitt Harvest Education Foundation.
Created in 1991 by the Michigan Manufactured Housing and the Recreation Vehicle and Campground Associations (MARVAC), the Harvest Foundation establishes educational opportunities for students seeking careers in RVs, campgrounds, manufactured housing or self-storage.
“The Tim DeWitt Harvest Education Foundation has given almost 650 scholarships in its 30 years of existence,” said Bill Sheffer, executive director of MMH/RVCA and Self-Storage Association of Michigan. “Our membership and staff are proud to have helped so many students work toward advanced education.”
In some cases, Harvest will award scholarships to students who have career goals outside these industries. The foundation states in cases such as these, awards will be given to “outstanding” students with compelling needs.
The foundation stated it has awarded more than $373,000 in financial aid to 646 students.
“In offering this scholarship, we are introducing students to career opportunities they might not have realized are available in the RV, camping, manufactured homes and self-storage businesses,” Sheffer said. “They get to see a unique prospect in the work force and our industries benefit by bringing in new critical thinking and fresh perspectives.”
Applications are due April 9. Those interested can apply online at www.marvac.org, www.michhome.org or www.selfstoragemichigan.org.
