Entrance fees are waived to all U.S. National Parks on Saturday, Sept. 24. The day marks National Public Lands Day.
The free admission days are designed to “encourage discovery and visitation of the country’s variety of national parks,” the National Park Service (NPS) said. The organization encourages visitors to use the NPS.gov site as well as the NPS app to prepare a visit to parks across the country.
Though entrance fees are waived, visitors will still have to pay camping, boat launch and transportation fees where applicable. National parks with reservation systems still will require advance pass reservations.
Entrance fees are used to provide programs, services, habitat restoration, building maintenance and repair.
The next free entrance day will be Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
