Nebraska Law Allows Larger Fifth Wheels State Sales

A picture of a fifth wheel in the woods

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts signed into law RVIA-backed legislation enabling larger fifth wheel trailer plans to be approved by the state Public Service Commission and sold by state RV dealers.

The bill was signed into law April 18. The state Legislature approved the bill unanimously.

The legislation will enable fifth wheels larger than 430 square feet to be approved and sold in Nebraska. Previously, state code did not permit RV approvals and sales for RVs larger than 430 square feet.

The square feet limitation removal will not change the size of the vehicle as it travels upon the highway in the state; all fifth-wheel trailers will still need to meet width and length provisions.

The legislation included an emergency clause and took effect immediately upon the governor’s signature.
