After 26 years in the RV industry, John Sammut, Newmar vice president of sales and marketing, will retire as of May 26.

He will continue in his role through the spring, including the annual Newmar dealer event and introduction of the 2024 model year product line.

Sammut joined Newmar in 2004 as director of sales after holding leadership roles at Fleetwood RV, and he was promoted to VP of sales and marketing in 2006.

According to Casey Tubman, Newmar Corp. president, Sammut was a key member of the executive team that guided the company through the recession from 2008-2010.

Sammut’s leadership, along with Newmar’s sales and marketing team, helped the manufacturer double its North American retail locations. Tubman said Sammut and the team built strong relationships with top-tier dealer partners.

During his Sammut’s tenure, Newmar introduced new brands including Bay Star, Bay Star Sport, Ventana, New Aire, London Aire, King Aire and the company’s first Super C product lines, Super Star and Supreme Aire.

Sammut’s numerous contributions to dealer network expansion, new products and sales and marketing helped grow Newmar’s total Type A market share. Newmar held a 2010 market share of just over 5%. Today its market share is nearly 13%. Newmar’s diesel Type A market share grew to over 27% in 2022, Tubman said.

Sammut was recently recognized by the Winnebago Industries’ leadership team with the Trusted Leadership Value Award.
