Almost 500 people on the path to becoming certified RV inspectors and technicians showed up in Athens, Texas, for the National RV Training Academy’s (NRVTA) RV Technician and Inspector Expo.
Gilda Mitchell, membership director for the National RV Inspectors Association and RV Technician Association of America (RVTAA), said the expo was a success.
“Participants who completed all the sessions earned 30 continuing education credits toward maintaining their certifications with the National RV Inspectors Association or the RV Technician Association of America,” Mitchell said.
She said the expo is unique because certified RV technicians and inspectors train their peers. In fact, people seeking credentials as master certified RV inspectors are required to make a presentation at a trade event.
David Cantrell owner at Miles From Monday RV Inspection Services, said the NRVIA and RVTAA exist to help technicians and inspectors. His presentation on customer development provides inspectors help advocating for their clients.
“People are making a very large purchase, which means they are excited and terrified at the same time,” Cantrell said. “It is the inspector’s job to calm their fears and help them to make informed decisions. Some of our customers do not live anywhere near the location of an RV they are thinking of purchasing, so they rely on us to serve as their eyes and ears.”
Cantrell said he prefers meeting in-person for networking conversations that take place between sessions.
Shane Hendricks, owner at Damascus Road RV Rental and Inspections, presented on what to look for when visually inspecting equipment.
“My presentation zeroed in on the basic components of front and rear suspension systems for motorized units as well as suspension systems on towable RVs,” Hendricks said. “It was helpful to have such a diverse group of presenters … everyone from active inspectors and technicians, as well as industry captains and representatives of various companies. They gave us the straight scoop about equipment we will encounter in the field.”
Tom Manning & Associates, Miller Farrell Insurance Agency, Road Life Project and HomeGauge sponsored the expo. Click here for information about the NRVIA.
