Ohio State Senator Introduces RV-Specific Franchise Bill

A picture of a gavel next to legislation.

RVIA is supporting a new RV-specific franchise bill in Ohio. State Sen. Andrew Brenner (R-Delaware) introduced Senate Bill 306. The bill focuses on Model Manufacturer-Dealer Agreement legislation created by RVIA and RVDA.

The bill adds to the “recreational vehicle franchise,” “recreational vehicle franchisor,” and “recreational vehicle franchisee” franchise law definitions. The legislation would include a provision exempting RV franchises from the many sections of the automobile franchise law in sections 4517.50 to 4517.65 of the Ohio Revised Code.

The RV-specific franchise obligations would be included in new sections 4517.70 to 4517.79.

Sen. Brenner is a Senate Transportations Committee member. He said he expects the bill to be referred to the committee when the Legislature returns from its current recess in early November.

If the committee held a hearing on the bill, RVIA said it would testify in favor of the legislation.

Over the years, the RV industry has established exemptions from parts of the automobile franchise law because many provisions do not pertain to the RV industry or are handled differently by RV manufacturers and dealers.
