Optronics Launches New Black Out Lights

When Optronics International’s new lights flash off, the previously illuminated orbs are shrouded in complete darkness.

The LED lighting supplier introduced its latest stop/turn/tail lamps: the smoke-lens Thinline STL59SRSHB Series 9-LED and the surface-mount STL87SRSHB Series 11-LED.

The lights are additions to Optronics’ product line, encompassing eight smoke-lens LED lights. Each light provides a completely black appearance when not illuminated. The lights remain compliant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108: “Lamps, Reflect Devices and Associated Equipment.” In Canada, the lights comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 108: “Lighting Systems and Reflective Devices.”

Optronics Vice President of Sales Dustin Smith said evolving preferences drew the supplier to “adopting a completely black aesthetic (that) enhances the visual prominence of a vehicle’s shape, while allowing its other features to blend in.”

The products incorporate black printed circuit boards (PCB) inside the lamps, minimizing reflections when lights are off. Other lamps typically integrate white or reflective PCBs.

The new Thinline lamps are crafted from polycarbonate and sonically welded to resist dust and moisture. A surface-mount device design protects the electronics from moisture, shock and vibration. The product comes with a lifetime warranty to replace any failing diode.

“The more varieties we produce, the more varieties people seem to request,” Smith said. “It is clearly a trend that, as of now, shows no indication of diminishing.”

The lights are available for shipping in the U.S. and Canada.
