The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) released a comprehensive list compiling recreation-specific projects the Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) American Rescue Plan funding will fuel through the competitive grant category.
This is the first time outdoor recreation has been identified as a core EDA funding priority.
Projects funded to date include $800,000 in trail infrastructure improvements in Delaware, a $2 million RV park in Ohio and nearly $4 million in pier improvements for recreational boating in Maine.
“Outdoor recreation supports jobs, improves health and increases economic resiliency in rural, and particularly gateway communities, while also contributing greatly to land and water conservation,” said Jessica Turner, ORR president. “We are thrilled to see recipients of this funding from all across the country launch transformative projects that will positively impact their communities and bolster our national outdoor recreation economy.”
As of late June, the EDA distributed over $44 million total towards outdoor recreation projects, including nearly $27.5 million in direct funding and almost $17 million in local funding. ORR said the funding supports local recoveries and helps ensure every American has access to the great outdoors.
