Last week, the Outdoor Hospitality Industry (OHI) advocated for RV parks and campgrounds in Washington, D.C., along RVIA’s RVs Move America Week events.
OHI leaders met with 34 senators and/or their staff to promote legislative goals.
Association attendees included David Basler, OHI chief strategy officer; Ali Rasmussen, creative director and CEO of Creative Spacious Skies Campgrounds and OHI board member; Matt Rose, Indiana Campground Owners Association executive director and Mike Gurevich, Cherry Hill Park owner.
The association focused on legislation to lower taxes and fees imposed on small businesses. This included the Credit Card Competition Act, which addresses fees credit card companies charge RV parks upon a consumer transaction. OHI advocated sustaining the Main Street Tax Certainty Act, which is set to expire De. 31, 2025. The act provides a 20% tax deduction for qualified business income.
The OHI public affairs team collaborated with North Carolina Sen. Ted Budd’s office to draft legislation providing 90 days for small businesses to fix website-based Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance issues before a lawsuit is filed.
Gurevich said, “OHI did a great job of strategically putting us in front of the Senate offices most important to these pieces of legislation, giving us the freedom to tell our stories as campground owners.”
