RV News Staff Writer Camille Lueder writes for the daily e-Newsletter and helps manage the magazine’s news@rvnews.com email address.
Lueder came to journalism in college. She enjoyed writing and was encouraged by her high school English teacher to pursue writing after graduation. In a bit of foreshadowing, Lueder nearly took a gap year before college to buy a Type B motorhome and explore the country. Instead, she enrolled in a small private state school, Berry College, in Mount Berry, Georgia.
“I really like Berry,” she said. “It had just under 2,000 students, so it was small, and it has the largest campus in the world, with 27,000 acres. All of it is woodlands and trails and hiking areas in the mountains of Georgia.”
Lueder entered college undecided on her major, but a history of media class in her freshman year cemented her desire to pursue journalism.
“I didn’t know exactly what route I wanted to go in,” she said, “but I wanted to be in the media, somehow.”
By her junior year in college, she targeted magazine journalism after trying numerous media roles. She said the niche provided her with more opportunities to write, while other options, such as photography or videography, involved more computer work.
As she sought post-graduate jobs, she eyed Colorado as her professional destination. Lueder made numerous trips to the state growing up, visiting her grandparents and other relatives. As she reviewed the RV News job listing, the magazine’s niche focus seemed a perfect fit.
“I never thought about covering the RV industry before,” she said, “but I like the niche audience.”
