Biography
Elroy Martens became Icon Technologies Limited general manager in 2018 and is second-in-command after the company’s founder and CEO John Loewen. Day-to-day, Martens coaches and leads Icon employees, removing obstacles and hurdles along their paths to success.
“When John first interviewed me for this position, he said we needed someone to grease the slide, and that is what I do,” Martens said. “Vision is provided by John, then leadership steps in to make sure the vision is met.”
Martens graduated from the University of Manitoba in management and administration in 1998. Out of college, he held various wholesale distribution positions at Canadian office supplier Supreme Basics. Over 28 years, Martens handled contracts and marketing, was brand manager and, in 2013, became general manager of operations.
Since starting at Icon in 2018, Martens said, “The thing I am most proud of is the Icon community and how it has continued to sustain and nurture the culture in our organization.” Icon prides themselves on person-to-person interaction, which Martens said has largely contributed to the company more than tripling its number of employees in the past five years.
“I could tell you how awesome our skylights are compared to the next person, but I think it is the little things,” Martens said. “At the end of the day, we want to connect with people.”
