President Donald Trump said Monday the 25% tariffs his administration planned to put on Canadian and Mexican products will be active next week.
The president originally signed executive orders Feb. 1 to initiate the tariffs. Two days later, the tariffs were paused for 30 days. Trump said Monday the tariffs will return after the 30-day expiration March 4.
Trump said, “The tariffs are going forward on time, on schedule.”
He added that the administration’s plan to impose reciprocal tariffs on every country will also continue as planned.
“So, the tariffs will go forward, yes,” he said, “and we are going to make up a lot of territory.”
Before the president paused tariffs on Canada and Mexico, both country’s leaders released plans to install retaliatory tariffs on American imports.
