Black Book’s RV Market Commentary for December found mixed wholesale values between towable and motorized RVs, compared with the previous month.
Eric Lawrence, principal analyst—specialty markets, said the overall trends in towable and motorized RVs are declining wholesale values. However, he said those trends might be on hold in the coming months.
“Several dealers we have spoken to in the colder states have said they are basically shutting down for a few months,” Lawrence said, “so future auction activity may be a little slower.”
The average wholesale price for towable RVs in October was $18,941. The value is down 5.9% from September 2023 and down 6.2% from the $20,187 average price in October 2022.
The average motorized RV wholesale price in October was $63,812, up 3.6% from September 2023 and up 2.8% from the $62,070 average sales price in October 2022.
“Motorhomes continued their frustrating ‘one month up one month down’ pattern again although their overall direction is clearly declining,” Lawrence said, “but towables were relatively consistent, with their values falling for the fourth consecutive month.”
Auction volume increased 1.6% for towables from the previous month, with motorized RVs nearly flat, up 0.1% from the previous month.
The average age of towables sold was five years, the 2018 model year. Motorized RVs’ average age was nine years, the 2014 model year.
