As the RV industry continues to grow, skilled technicians are a necessity. Since its inception in 2018, the RV Technical Institute (RVTI) has updated training, refined recruitment processes and collaborated with industry members to deliver technician education. The institute unveiled its 2023 annual report, recording recruitment and training efforts in the past year.
The organization recorded more than 5,000 certified training technicians and nearly 1,000 training locations in 2023. The institute recruited more than 1,000 individuals in 2023.
RVTI targeted two demographics for recruitment this year: women and high school students.
The organization said 30% of those interested in taking RVTI training courses were women. The institute organized a campaign to attract women to the field. The efforts included providing all-female training courses in Florida, Indiana, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Texas.
In 2023, RVTI partnered with high schools in three states, enabling students to graduate as certified Level 1 RV technicians. The institute has collaborated with the American School Counselor Association since 2022 to educate high school counselors about the RV industry and technician demand.
RVTI Executive Director Curt Hemmeler said, “Our multipronged approach to recruitment has been very successful, allowing the institute to reach people from outside the RV industry who can be trained to fill RV technician jobs now, and people who will fill the pipeline with the RV technicians of the future.”
