Survey Finds More Americans Planning RV Trip

RVIA’s latest survey found 72 million Americans planning an RV trip in the next 12 months. The total is up 7.4% from 67 million Americans in January 2023, the last time the finding was released, and up 10.8% from the 65 million Americans reported in June 2022.

Over a quarter of all leisure travelers this year said they will consider renting or buying an RV.

The Spring Travel Intentions Survey, conducted by Cairn Consulting, found an estimated 14.7 million Americans plan to travel by RV specifically for spring break. Two-thirds of RV owners plan to hit the road or rent an RV.

Over the entire spring season, the survey reported 28.2 million Americans intend to take an RV trip.

RVers (72%) showed the highest enthusiasm for spring travel. By generation, Gen Z reported the highest enthusiasm (71%), with millennials (65%) and Gen X (60%) next.

RV travelers are planning on going to destinations within a seven- to-15-hour drive from home. Beaches and coastal areas are top destination picks, with the Florida Keys ranking as No. 1. National parks such as the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone remain favorites, followed closely by lakes, mountain retreats and major cities, including Las Vegas and Miami.

RVers cite several key reasons for hitting the road this spring: better weather, less crowded destinations, the desire to escape the busyness of life and the appeal of off-season travel savings. RVIA said these factors are driving increased interest in RV travel, contributing to a steady rise in online research and trip planning.
