As a part of an ongoing effort to gauge the needs of the Indiana manufacturing community, the Indiana Manufacturers Association (IMA) has been conducting periodic surveys regarding how COVID-19 is affecting all areas of manufacturing, Indiana’s largest economic sector.
The latest survey, conducted in June, measured the trends in manufacturers’ outlook and focused on the various methods employed by manufacturers to protect workers and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Click here to view the full results of that survey.
Manufacturers’ optimism continued into June, with more respondents saying they were very optimistic or optimistic about the next 6 to 12 months than they were in May. The 18- to 24-month outlook also remained optimistic, with 64% of respondents saying they were very optimistic or optimistic. Manufacturers have also overwhelming altered production operations (82%), allowed non-production staff to continue working from home (67%) and performed temperature checks prior to the start of work (62%).
“Manufacturers’ optimism remains high even as they make changes to their businesses to protect the health of employees,” said IMA President and CEO Brian Burton. “The IMA continues in to support manufacturers through timely webinars with various partners, the promotion of Purdue MEP’s Returning to Work Guide, a supply list where manufacturers may purchase personal protective equipment and safety gear, a resource page with links to valuable information and past webinar materials/recordings, and a forum for the exchange of information among forum members.”
