Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. (FCCC) created the new XCR Super Raised Rail chassis for Tiffin’s 2021 Phaeton 40IH, which they debuted at this week’s Tampa RV SuperShow.
FCCC’s XCR Super Raised Rail chassis offers the tallest rail configuration in the industry and helps the 2021 Phaeton 40IH deliver maximum storage and a flat coach floor.
“I think the flat floor configuration is extremely attractive,” said Bryan Henke, FCCC manager of product marketing. “Walking from the front to rear of the coach on a flat floor is extremely attractive. Achieving a flat floor resulted in increased storage.”
FCCC’s XCR Super Raised Rail gives the coach greater towing capacity than previous models. Its Cummins L9 engine generates up to 450 horsepower and 1,250 pound-feet of torque, allowing enough power to handle challenging grades without sacrificing fuel economy.
The Tiffin-FCCC collaboration culminated in “a world-class model we believe represents and embodies the very best of what both these iconic and legendary brands have to offer,” stated Jeremy Buckmeier, FCCC’s RV product manager. “This combination is built to deliver popular amenities and best-in-class storage, along with a pleasant automotive driving experience, to RVers who deserve and expect the best.”
Other chassis features include FCCC’s recent innovations, incorporating DriveTech’s ergonomic steering and all-digital gauge display and RoadWatch’s stability control, collision mitigation and automatic traction control.
FCCC’s V-Ride provides rear suspension with a rating up to 24,000 pounds, allowing Phaeton to carry more amenities with better roll stability and a smoother ride. The chassis has independent front suspension with a 60-degree wheel cut, allowing maneuverability and less backing up while driving.
The Tiffin 2021 Phaeton 40IH is available now, and FCCC extends their 24/7 Direct app and Oasis Service Network to all its drivers. This grants Phaeton owners access to factory-direct concierge service and more than 450 Freightliner-branded service.
