Used RV Prices Decline Slightly

Graph showing trends in used RV prices between January 2015 and October 2019

Used RV prices have begun their annual seasonal decline according to a new report from
Black Book. The latest monthly RV Market Commentary report breaks down sales of used motorhomes, fifth wheels and travel trailers.

For motorhomes, including type A, B and C units, the average selling price was $46,293, down $2,068 (4.2 percent) from the previous month. In 2018, the average October selling price was $43,729. Auction volume was unchanged from September and the average model year selling at auction was 2012.

Taking a look at the used towable market, including travel trailers and fifth wheels, the average selling price was $15,188 in October, down $724 (4.5 percent) from September. The average selling price a year earlier was $13,052. Auction volume was down 3 percent from the previous month. The average used model year in the towables category was 2011.

The report states, “As we get closer to winter, and the thermometer begins to drop into freezing temperatures, fewer and fewer consumers are thinking about buying and selling RVs, and this naturally influences dealer behavior as well…fewer sold units means less of a need to replace them. However, this is a great time for dealers to contact their customers about winterization and other off-season service needs.”
