Towable RV manufacturer and dealer relations in Washington will be governed by a new law. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed Washington state’s RV-specific franchise bill, HB 1996, into law.
RVIA Director of State Affairs Mike Ochs said, “Passage of this legislation will strengthen the towable segment of the RV industry in Washington, benefitting consumers, manufacturers and dealers alike.”
The legislation will streamline warranty matters and pre-delivery inspections.
The law is built off the automobile franchise law. Due to various differences between the automotive and RV industries, RVIA advocated for an RV-specific law on towable RV manufacturer and dealer relationships to be written as a separate chapter in the law.
Ochs testified in support of the bill Jan. 17 in the Washington House Consumer Protection and Business Committee and Feb. 20 in front of the Washington Senate Labor and Commerce Committee.
The bill will take effect June 12, 90 days after its signing.
The Washington law is similar to one recently passed out of the legislature in Wisconsin. The bill was presented to Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers on Monday and awaits his signature to become law.
