As the spring season begins, Black Book found wholesale RV auction volume rising for motorized and towable RVs.
The Black Book RV Market Commentary for March found motorized auction volume rising 12.3% in January from December 2022. Towable auction volume rose 6.2% in January from the previous month, Black Book reported.
Average sales prices for wholesale RVs were mixed, Black Book reported. Motorized RV values fell 8.1% in January from the previous month to $67,539. The average motorized age was 11 years old, 2012 models.
Towable values, meanwhile, rose 1.8% in January from the previous month to $19,541. The average age of towables was six years old, 2017 models.
“The RVIA is projecting new RV shipments to come in at around 335,000 units for 2023, a 32% decline from 2022,” said Eric Lawrence, Black Book principal analyst – specialty markets. “They explain that this decrease is to better align dealers’ inventory with the forecast consumer demand. With new RV lots seemingly fully stocked, we expect fewer ‘new RV’ buyers to be shopping for used RVs and for values to return to more normal seasonal patterns as the year progresses.”
