As the camping season ramps up, Black Book reports wholesale RV auction volume is up for motorized and towable RVs over the prior month.
According to Eric Lawrence, Black Book Principal Analyst, Specialty Markets, “For the second consecutive month, RV auction volume is up significantly, once again almost certainly due to the increase in trade-ins on new RV sales.”
The Black Book Market Commentary for June found motorized auction volume was up 37.5%. Towable auction volume rose 20.2% from the previous month, Black Book reported.
Average sale prices for motorized RVs and towables were down, albeit the drop was slight for towables, the report said. The average selling price for a motorized RV fell 10.7% to $65, 366 in April, down $7,873 from March. One year ago, the average motorized RV sold for $73,350. The average selling price for towables decreased 0.1% to $21,130 in April, down $24 from the previous month. The average selling price for a towable was $20,883 in 2022.
Lawrence said market conditions offer the opportunity for dealers to choose which trades to retain and which to send to retail auctions.
According to Lawrence, “We have also heard reports from the lanes that repossessions are increasing in several regions.”
