Following an unusual rise in wholesale RV values in Fall 2021, average wholesale auction prices of towable RVs and motorhomes have dropped for two months in a row, according to Black Book.
Eric Lawrence, principal analyst of specialty markets at Black Book, said this is not surprising, as values typically fall throughout the winter as RVing becomes more difficult.
“Specialty vehicles often see lower demand during the colder months,” Lawrence said. “Motorhomes dropped more sharply than towables, but it is noteworthy that the average age was two years older than last month.”
During December, the average model year of wholesale auction motorhomes was 2009, Black Book found.
Motorhomes’ average selling price dropped 12.6% to $69, 237. The average selling price was $69,237, down $10,033 (12.6%) from the previous month.
In 2020, the average selling price of wholesale motorhome units was $55,072. Black Book reported December’s auction volume was down 14.9% for motorhomes from November.
Average prices for travel trailers and fifth wheels dropped just over 4% in December to $20,520. One year ago, Black Book reported, the average selling price for towables was $18,191. Additionally, Black Book found auction volume was down 12.8% from November. The average towable model year was 2016, up from 2015 in November.
